By KTM Metro Reporter
April 21, 2013: Seto Matsyandranath travels from Jamal to Lagantole in Kathmandu every year. Seto Matsyandranath is the rain god, so the rain starts off after the god is installed on the spire-like chariot for pulling through the narrow lanes of the old Kathmandu town. This year the rain has started off on the day the rain god is set in the chariot.
Seto Matsyandranath travels from Jamal to Bhotahity on the chariot on the first day, and from Bhotahity to Hunumandhoka on the second day, and finally from Hunumandhoka to Lagantole on the third and last day of the festival. Seto Matsyandranath has reached Lagantole yesterday.
Living Goddess Kumari presides over the festival of Seto Matsyandranath at Lagantole on the last day of the festival. Living Goddess Kumari travels on a portable shrine carried on shoulder poles from the goddess’ abode to Lagantole. Seto Matsyandranath makes three rounds of the rain god’s mother there. That ends the festival.
Hundreds of devotees visit Seto Matsyandranath and presiding Living Goddess Kumari at Lagantole. Some offers hundreds of oil lamps to the deities. Others sing devotional songs.
