Issue 36, September 8, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 2, 2013: speaking to the reporters at the interaction event held at the Kantipath office of the Election Commission (EC) yesterday, EC commissioners including the chief of the EC have said that the EC has completed all the election-related work except for printing the ballot papers, and the EC is ready to hold elections to a new CA scheduled for November 19, 2013, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

The EC has completed the updating of the voters’ list, registration of the political parties, training of staffs for managing the elections, and preparation for printing ballot papers. The EC has to print 30 million ballot papers. The EC has requested the government for the security of elections. The government will provide the security plan to the EC next week, according to the EC commissioners.

The chief of the EC has said that the election date is unlikely to change, as the major political parties have been moving ahead with their election campaigns, and they are unlikely to change their mind even if certain political parties oppose the elections; some political parties remain out of the election process even in the matured democracy; the uncertainty of holding elections to the dissolved CA prevailed until the last date of holding the elections in the past, too.

Speaking at the interaction with the reporters held by the Kaski Chapter of Nepal Press Union in Pokhara yesterday, Vice-president of NC Ram Chandra Poudel has said that the election vehicle has moved far ahead, and it cannot wait for the CPN-Maoist if it does not want to take a ride on it, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

Speaking at the event held at the Maisthan Guesthouse in Birgunj yesterday to welcome the political cadres seeking entry to his party, General Secretary of CPN-Maoist Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal has said that the talks with the government and the four-party political mechanism have ended inconclusively due to the irresponsibility of the government and the four-party leaders, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatrra’ of today.

General Secretary Badal has said that his party is not against the elections but if the army is used for forcibly holding the elections, it will surely invite confrontation with his party.
