Breaking Up Corruption Network

Issue 37, September 11, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 9, 2011: speaking at the function held to mark the Civil Servants’ Day yesterday, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has called on the state employees to break up the corruption network endemic in the Nepalese bureaucracy.

Dr. Bhattarai has told the audience that the state bureaucracy is a permanent one whereas the government comes and goes. So, any government without the support of the bureaucracy won’t be successful. He has asked the bureaucrats for their help in maintaining the law and order but he has failed in asking for the rule of law. This is where Dr. Bhattarai fails in.

Dr. Bhattarai wants to eradicate the corruption so endemic in the Nepalese bureaucracy with the help of the bureaucrats that have been thriving on corruption but it will be impossible. He could do it with the help of the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority and following the rule of law.
