Flaying Back Trekkers Stranded At Lukla In Nepal

Issue 46, November 13, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 8, 2011: private airlines, state-owned airlines and the Nepal Army helicopters and planes have made 80 flights to Lukla, Surke and Faflu and flown back about one thousand trekkers stranded at Lukla yesterday. Airlift of all trekkers foreign and Nepalis will be completed today according to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.

Helicopters have flown back trekkers from Surke and Faflu yesterday. Some trekkers have been waiting at Surke and Faflu for helicopters to pick them up; many more are still at Lukla waiting for planes to come. However, all of them will be flown back to Kathmandu today.

Some trekkers have walking down to Jiri: midway between Lukla and Kathmandu. They will take buses from Jiri to Kathmandu.

The Trekking Agency Association of Nepal (TAAN) has made a request to the government of Nepal for considering waiving the double charge the trekkers needed to pay for the over-stay due to the non-availability of flights, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes. We hope that the government would positively consider such a reasonable request.
