Checking Aircrafts For Safety In Nepal

Issue 44, October 28, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 27, 2012: a spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has said that CAAN plans to review all safety operating procedures of the 12 domestic airlines mostly privately-owned companies, as it has been necessary to do so after one aircraft after another has crashed in Nepal within a few years. If the airlines companies failed to adhere to the aircraft manufacturers’ maintenance schedules then such companies would be stopped from operating their aircrafts. All companies have been operating with twin-engine turboprop aircrafts.

CAAN also plans to investigate whether the airlines companies have done the mandatory competency checks on their pilots or not.

State-run Nepal Airlines is exempted from the safety checks, as it has been accident-free in recent years.
