Politburo Of CPN-UML Approves The Seven-point Deal

Issue 09, February 27, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

February 22, 2011: Politburo meeting of the CPN-UML has approved the seven-point agreement the chairmen of UCPN-Maoist and CPN-UML have reached just before the election to a new prime minister on February 03, 2011, ‘The Rising Nepal’ today writes quoting Vice-chairman of CPN-UML Bamdev Gautam. The Central Committee of the CPN-UML has also approved the seven-point deal paving the way for Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal to enforce it.

Provisions made in the seven-point deal for a separate unit of Maoist Army and for the Chairmen of UCPN-Maoist and CPN-UML holding office of prime minister in rotation, have been a bone of contention among some of the rebelling leaders of the CPN-UML. Former highly tainted Prime Minister and senior leader KP Oli have been spearheading a protest against these two provisions and have been determined to amend these provisions. However, their campaign has been more to make Jhalanath Khanal a failed prime minister rather than sincerely acting against the seven-point deal. They have been for sidelining the UCPN-Maoist and joining hands with the rest of the political parties represented in the parliament and then continuing the rule of these guys without completing the peace process and the writing of a new constitution.

In Banke, Western Nepal, on February 21, 2011, speaking to the cadres of his party, NC President Sushil Koirala has said that the alliance between the UCPN-Maoist and the CPN-UML is unnatural and is for grabbing the power; his party will join the Khanal government if the seven-point deal is revoked.

Speaking to the reporters in Biratnagar, Eastern Nepal on February 20, 2011, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that the delay in forming a full-fledged cabinet is the indication of some forces in the CPN-UML have been attempting on sabotaging the peace process and the writing of a new constitution toppling the Khanal government but his party will not let it happen and will give support for the Khanal government even if his party has to stay in the opposition.

Speaking at the function held by National Federation of Indigenous Nationalities in Kathmandu on February 21, 2011, House Speaker Subash Nembang has said that the country needs a full-fledged cabinet immediately; a few ministers without portfolios cannot run the country indefinitely, and resolve the challenges the county faces.
