Department Of Education In Contempt Of Court

Issue 18, May 5, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

May 4, 2013: the Supreme Court of Nepal had issued directives to the Government of Nepal to make an arrangement for making the private schools taking admission fees illegal. The Department of Education of the Government of Nepal instead of formulating rules and regulations making the private schools illegal to take admission fees has rather made the rules allowing the private schools taking an admission fee equal to the one-month tuition fee in contempt of the Supreme Court of Nepal, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

The private schools have been taking admission fees from the parents for admitting students to the next grade every year. The fees go up to 10 times more than the monthly tuition fee. In addition, the private schools have been robbing the parents charging them for swimming, karate, computer, and library and so on even for the students that have never attended such courses. Some of the schools have not even such facilities to teach the students for which they have been charging fees.

The officials of the Department of Education of the Government of Nepal must be working hand in glove with the owners of the private schools otherwise how the responsible officials also the law enforcement officials could act in contempt of court making rules that are clearly against the directives of the Supreme Court of Nepal.
