Celebrating The Day Of Power Transfer To People In Nepal

April 25, 2013: the government has celebrated the April 24, 2013 as the day of transferring the power from the then monarch to the people. Speaking at the event held by Vice-president Permanada Jha in Kathmandu, Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi said that the government has been seriously engaged in holding elections; so, holding elections is no longer in doubt; surely elections would be held at any cost; nobody should doubt it, according to ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.

 

Former Chairman of dissolved Constituent Assembly Subhas Nemwang said that an environment conducive to elections would not be created until the Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi quit the office of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal; if the Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi was really serious about holding the elections, he should quit the office of the Chief Justice; it has no alternative, according ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today. He also said that none of the political parties should forget their principles and values, and moral but in Nepal, political parties weakened democracy turning over the executive power to bureaucrats. He also commented that issuing the ‘Removing Constitutional Hurdles Ordinance’ President Dr Ram Baran Yadav had made an unconstitutional move.

 

General Secretary of NC Krishna Prasad Sitaula said that if the elections were not to hold in November of this year, the life of current government would end. If the current government could not work following its mandate then its life would automatically end. General Secretary Sitaula also said that democracy had moved off track on May 28, 2012, elections were the only way to bring democracy back on track. Elections should be held in November of this year at any cost otherwise democracy would suffer. General Secretary Sitaula said that all political parties built a consensus on setting up republic but they did not come closer to institutionalize it, according to ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.

 

Speaking at the 17th Anniversary of Nepal Medical College in Kathmandu, Minister for Health and Population, Bidhaydhar Mallik said that the government could not announce the election date, as preparation for elections has not been completed, yet. He also said that all political parties needed to cooperate in holding elections, according to ’gorkhapatra’ news of today.

 

Speaking at the event held at the Sahid Smarak Park in Thankot yesterday to celebrate the day of power transfer to the people, Miniser for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Ram Kumar Shrestha said that the dream of the martyrs would be met only institutionalizing the achievements of the historical people’s movement; this could be done only crafting a new constitution through the Constituent Assembly, according to ’gorkhapatra’ news of today.
