Rule Of Law In Crisis

Issue 05, January 30, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

January 24, 2011: President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Kush Kumar Joshi with the delegation of the business community has met with officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal on January 23, 2011 and informed him about the prevailing lawlessness in the country making an environment for business worse; Madhav Nepal has assured the business community of taking actions anybody not following the rule of law, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of January 24, 2011 writes. However, after Madhav Nepal became the prime minister, the lawlessness in Nepal has increased several times more than used to be.

President of FNCCI Joshi has reminded the officiating prime minister about the increased power outage, industrial insecurity, the ban imposed by the government on stone-crushing industries that have the investment of Rs 40 billions, problems of the certificate of origin, syndicate of transporters causing high transportation cost and so on.

Officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has been complaining that the state employees have not followed his instructions, so, once again he has instructed the Ministers and Secretaries to immediately enforce the decisions made by the government to end the syndicate system of transporters, and revoke the licenses of the people not following the law even though his instructions will go astray. Madhav Nepal has said so just to pretend that the government is committed to impose the rule of law. However, Madhav Nepal himself is the symbol of violation of the rule of law.

Concerning the preservation of the religious site such as the Lumbini: the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, Madhav Nepal has said that after taking over the office of Prime Minister, he has been asking the industry owners to move their industries from the site but they have not only continued to operate their industries but even have added new ones, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of January 24, 2011 writes. However, he again shows his smartness calling the concerned ministries and secretaries to immediately revoke the licenses of industries running on the premises of Lumbini even knowing that his orders will not be followed.
