Traffic Jam Due to VVIP's Travel
By KTM Metro Reporter
October 13, 2011: the traffic police don’t respect the rights of the common folks to travel when anyone of the modern VVIPs plans to travel somewhere in the Kathmandu Valley. They keep the traffic standstill for hours making the people stranded on the streets for several hours without giving any seasons for such traffic block.
If you are a traveler in Kathmandu you will find the Nepalese traffic police are the most incompetent police in the world. For example, if a truck carrying a load of construction materials happens to cross the road then the traffic police stop such a truck then and there without taking the truck to a side and thinking the traffic jam.
The traffic police have not changed their mindset of serving their VVIP bosses without considering the troubles to other travelers on the streets; they want to make sure that the travel of VVIPs even now called ‘savari’ is done no matter what trouble they make to the common travelers.
Prime Minister Dr. Baburam BHattarai has rightly shown his concern for the inconvenience to other travelers due to the ‘savari’ of VVIPs. However, instructing the DIG and the Secretary to Ministry of Transport Management will not surely solved the problem of the traffic jams. So, the prime minister needs to take immediate actions first to change the mindset of the traffic police to think of avoiding the inconveniences of common folks as they pay taxes for their salaries and then only think of holding ‘savari’ properly for their modern masters.
The prime minister also must arrange a training for the traffic police on the traffic management either sending them to Bangkok or bringing some experts on traffic management from there to Nepal for holding a training on traffic management for the Nepalese traffic police.
