Birthday Celebration Of KP Bhattarai

Issue 51, December 20, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On December 13, 2009, President, Prime Minister and other top political leaders have participated in the 86th birthday celebration of one of the founding fathers of Nepali Congress Krishna Prasad Bhattarai held by the Osho Center in Kathmandu. Dr. Ram Baran Yadav decorated Mr. Bhattarai with the garland made of auspicious grasses and Prime Minister Madhav Nepal presented a gift to Mr. Bhattarai. Mr. Bhattarai’s political rival Girija Prasad Koirala did not show up at the birthday function but sent a congratulatory note to him. Mr. Bhattarai had surrendered Prime Ministerial position to Girija Prasad Koirala twice.

Krishna Prasad Bhattarai was the first Speaker of the first parliament elected in 1958. He became Prime Minister twice once as an Interim and the next as the elected one. He refused to comment on the President’s move on directly writing a letter to the army chief. He is one of the sincere leaders of the Nepali Congress but sidelined by the crooked leaders.

The irony is that the photo of Krishna Prasad Bhattarai flanked by President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav and Former Prime Minister Prachanda published in the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of December 14, 2009 shows that Prachanda is wearing much more flower garlands than Bhattarai.
