High-profile Taskforce Working Well

November 05, 2010: the high-profile seven-member taskforce has obviously done a good job resolving 39 contentious issues out of over 208 that have been stated in the reports prepared by the subject-matter committees; and taskforce head: Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has presented a report on those resolved issues at the all-party meeting of the 27-political parties represented in the Constituent Assembly (CA) on Thursday, November 04, 2010 and requested them for the extension of the term of the taskforce; in view of the work done by the taskforce, the political parties have extended the term of the taskforce for a month until December 11, 2010 for resolving the remaining contentious issues, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of November 05, 2010 writes.

The 27-political parties represented in the CA have set up the high-profile taskforce comprising the top leaders of the major political parties to resolve the contentious issues on October 11, 2010. The member of the taskforce has made Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda the head of the taskforce.

The seven-member taskforce has also agreed on making a provision for a single citizenship issued by the central government mentioning the provincial identity of the citizens in the new constitution to be promulgated. Concerning the Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs), it has decided to provide the NRNs living in the countries other than South Asia with citizenship certificates but without political rights and to the foreign women married to Nepalese citizens with the naturalized citizenship immediately after they abandoned their other citizenships but the men married to Nepalese woman need to wait for 15 years for getting the naturalized citizenship. However, they will not enjoy the right to hold the office of head and deputy head of the nation, prime minister, chairman of the central and provincial legislature, chief of any security organs ‘The Rising Nepal’ of November 05, 2010 writes.
