Chhatha Festival

On October 25, 2009, Nepalis living in mid and eastern Tarai regions have celebrated the last day of the Chhatha festival making offerings to the rising sun. Mostly women standing on the bank of water sources and some in water have made offerings to the rising sun praying for the happiness of their families and for meeting their wishes.

On October 24, 2009, President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav and some other political leaders have participated in the Chhatha festival held at Ranipokhari in Kathmandu.

Chhatha festival has been one of the national festivals, as not only the Nepalis of Tarai origin have been celebrating it but also the Nepalis of hill origin in Tarai have been celebrating it. Many Nepalis have also started celebrating it in Kathmandu, too.
