Summoning Defense Minister And CoAS For Questioning

March 15, 2010: the legislative Committee on Women, Children and Social Welfare has summoned Defense Minister Vidya Bhandari and Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Chhatraman Singh Gurung to be present at the committee meeting on March 16, 2010 for questioning about the killing of three innocent women including a 12-year old girl at the Bardiya National Park by the Nepal Army personnel on March 11, 2010.
The Nepal Army personnel have fired and killed three innocent women while they were cutting grass at the Bardiya National Park. However, in a statement, the Nepal Army has said that the three women are poachers and killed during an encounter with the soldiers in the national park area.
Human Rights people have descended on Bardiya to find out the Nepal Army abusing human rights and killing innocent people for their no faults. However, the government headed by Madhav Nepal has been promoting the human rights abusers and protecting the major indicted for killing a minor.
Recently, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal and his Defense Minister have promoted Toran Jung Bahadur Singh to the second-in-command of the Nepal Army despite the opposition of the international and local human rights organizations and civil society leaders because Mr. Singh is indicted for the enforced disappearance of 49 Nepalis.
