Government To Provide Former VVIPs With Benefits

July 18, 2012: Head of State President Dr Ram Baran Yadav today issued a presidential ordinance following the recommendation of the prime minister providing former VVIPs with benefits and security following the Article 88 (1) of the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007. Following the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nepal on formulating a law on providing former-VVIPs with benefits and security rather than on the ad-hoc decision of the cabinet, the coalition government of UCPN-Maoist and UDMF formulated this ordinance that would provide former-VVIPs such as presidents, chief justices, House Speakers, prime ministers, and home ministers, writes ‘The Himalayan Times’.
Following the ordinance, the government will provide former presidents, vice presidents, prime ministers, chief justices and speakers each with a vehicle worth Rs 5 million and Rs 50,000 for vehicle-maintenance per year, Rs 50,000 a year each to former president and vice president and Rs 40,000 a year to former prime minister for hospitality, and four employees including one gazette-third-class officer for the personal secretariat of the former president and two employees including one third-class-gazette-officer each for the personal secretariat of former vice president and prime minister, Rs 40,000 each a year for hospitality and one non-gazette-first-class official for their personal secretariat to former chief justices and former speakers, in addition, they would get house allowances if they did not get the state apartment, writes myrepublica.com
