Maoist Legislators Boycott Legislature

Issue 04, January 24, 2010

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

January 20, 2010: Maoist legislators have boycotted the session of the legislature protesting the Prime Minister not responding to the issues with clarifications they have demanded from the Prime Minister. On Sunday, January 17, 2010, speaking at the legislature, Deputy Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Narayan Kaji Shrestha has demanded the clarification from the Prime Minister on the Prime Minister saying, ‘relegating the UCPN-Maoist to the status of LTTE’ (Tamil rebels crushed by the Srilankan army ending the more than two-decade long civil war in Sri Lanka), Indian Army Chief telling the Nepalese general not to integrate the Maoist combatants into the Nepal Army and news on the government receiving arms from India. So, the legislature has postponed its business until Thursday, January 21, 2010.

Disregarding the Speaker of the legislature Subash Nemwang’s instruction to respond to the questions of the UCPN-Maoist legislators with clarifications, Prime Minster Madhav Nepal has not showed up at the legislature on Monday, January 28, 2010, to respond to the questions of the legislators thus dishonoring the basic principles of democratic system of governance. Madhav Nepal defeated in the elections is not accountable to the people and people’s representatives so he could ignore even the Speaker of the legislature.
