Maoists End Double Security System For them

Issue 23, June 05, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 2, 2011: Maoists had not believed the state security system and had been using their own security guards in addition to the government security guards but yesterday they decided to terminate the guards provided by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and depend on the government security guards. Members of the PLA providing security to the Maoists leaders will go back to their respective cantonments. This is the first step of the enforcement of the five-point agreement leaders of UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-ML had signed off on May 29, 2011

This time, leaders seem to be serious to enforce the five-point deal reached among three major parties: UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML. They have been holding meetings to see how they could move forward following the five-point deal.

Instead of sticking to the demand for immediate resignation of the prime minister, leaders have engaged in pushing the peace process and the constitution writing forward is the auspicious new beginning of institutionalizing the achievements made by the people’s movement in 2006.
