By KTM Metro Reporter

January 11, 2011: Minister for Energy Prakash Sharan Mahat has been enjoying the power without outage in the country where the entire population has had the power outage of more than 12 hours a day. Minister Mahat can enjoy such luxury amid the poverty because he has stolen a high power generator from the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) for his personal use at home.

According to the ‘Kantipur daily’, NEA has installed a powerful generator at his residence in Bansbari soon after he became the energy minister in July, last year. All power supply at Mahat’s residence and even some streetlights near his residence have been powered with the generator, nepalnews.com writes.

A few days ago, news has it that Minister for Commerce and Supplies Rajendra Mahato has similarly stolen petroleum products from the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) for his personal uses, General Manager of the NOC has told the Public Account Committee. He has recently increased the prices of petroleum products to cover up the losses caused by the theft of petroleum products by the minister like him.

Officiating Prime Minister Mahdav Nepal has been the high-profile thief, too. He has increased the price of sugar during the sugarcane-milling season last year and purchased the sugar from the mill owner at the high price and then decreased the sugar price again. Thus, he has stolen the money from the pockets of the Nepalis and from the state-run company called Salt Trading Corporation that has the monopoly on dealing the sugar business.
