Hardliner Mohan Vaidya resigns from CA member

Issue 43, October 26, 2008

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

A senior leader of the CPN-Maoist and Member of Constituent Assembly (CA) Mohan resigned from the member of constituent assembly on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 following the principle of one person holding only one position. Mr. Vaidya submitted the resignation to the Chairman of CA after the discussion at the central committee and secretariat of his party. He resigned from the CA member to free him to devote on party affairs.

Mr. Vaidya is a hardliner and has been advocating for People's Republic and single party Communist dictatorship in a sharp contrast to Prime Minister Prachanda's stand on multi-party democratic republic, respect for human rights and liberal economic policy. So, Mr. Vaidya’s stand on People’s Republic has been an embarrassment to Prime Minister Prachanda and like-minded colleagues, as they have been convincing the members of the international community that they are for a multiparty democratic republic in Nepal. Mr. Vaidya has been a challenger to Prime Minister Prachanda.
