Talking to the reporters after the function held to mark the 59th Republic Day of India at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, on Saturday, January 26, 2008, Indian ambassador to Nepal Shiva Shankar Mukherjee said that Nepalese people and leaders are capable of resolving the problems cropping up in the Terai region. However, the Indian government is willing to extend all sorts of assistance to the Nepal government in this regard.

Ambassador Mukherjee also said, “A free and fair election to the Constituent Assembly, which will give Nepal and its people their new social, economic and political future, remains the most important step in this journey.”
