I Am Not An Obstacle To Consensus Building Says Prime Minister

December 19, 2012: Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has made it clear to President Dr Ram Baran Yadav that he was not an obstacle to a consensus building today at the meeting with the president. Apprising the President of the efforts made by and discussions held so far with political parties for a consensus building, the Prime Minister made it clear that there was no truth in the ongoing publicity that he was an obstacle to a consensus government, according to the RSS news report of today.

Senior leaders of UCPN-Maoist, NC, and CPN-UML held a meeting today obviously for breaking the current political deadlock in the country without any positive results but provoking the displeasure of the UDMF leader Bijaya Gacchedar for bypassing the UDMF, writes ‘the Himalayan Times’ quoting the RSS today.

Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda along with Amik Sherchan met with the CPN-UML leaders at the house of a third person in Kathmandu obviously to reach a deal. Chairman Prachanda had forwarded an eight-point proposal to the CPN-UML to discuss. The eight-point proposal includes announcement of the date for elections in April-May, amendments to the constitution required to hold the elections, appointment of office-bearers to the vacant positions at the constitutional bodies, owning up of the issues finalized by the dissolved Constituent Assembly and participation of the opposition parties in the Bhattarai-led government for a brief period before turning over the office of prime minister to the NC, "The UML accepted all the points except for one about turning Bhattarai into a consensus government before leadership handover," nepwlanews.com writes today quoting the CPN-UML source.
