Displeasure At Sujata’ Promotion

Issue 43, October 25, 2009

By Kathmandu Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

Immediately after return from India visit on October 17, 2009, former Prime Minister and Senor Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has reacted sharply to the promotion of Sujata Koirala to the Deputy Prime Minister. He has said that the decision of Prime Minister Madhav Nepal on elevating Sujat Koirala to Deputy Prime Minster is unfortunate to his party, as it has hurt to the party that has been held in high esteem by people for its democratic values.

He has said that such matters need to be discussed in the central committee and parliamentary party meeting of the Nepali Congress. He even has warned of such sorts of unilateral decisions would adversely affect the party in the future.

Senior leader Deuba has kept quiet when his mentor Girija Prasad Koirala appointed Sujata Koirala to the leader of a team of NC cadres joining the coalition government whereas most of other senor leaders have vigorously opposed it.

At the same time, NC ministers loyal to Sujata Koirala including Minister for Irrigation Bal Krishna Khad and Minister for Energy Prakash Sharan Mahat have defended Sujata’s elevation to Deputy Prime Minister.

As the leader of a team of NC ministers in the Madhav Nepal’s government, Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala has called NC ministers over to her resident and has instructed them to work efficiently and demonstrate their capacity and ability to work as ministers.
