Corrupt State Employees In Jail And On The Run

Kathmandu, June 22, 2017, the state-run newspaper “gorkhapatra” published two important news: one about former IGPs , AIG and DIG surrendering to the court, and another CIAA asking for the whereabouts of two State-revenue officials on the run.

 

Former Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) Om Bikram Rana and Hem Bahadur Gurung were sent to jail on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 for serving the jail term. Former AIG Deepak Thangden and DIG Deepak Thapa were also sent to jail. However, former IGP Rameshchand Thakuri has been on the run, the news on the “gorkhapatra” of June 22, 2017 stated.

 

On April 30, 2017, the Supreme Court had indicted them of causing the irregularities in purchasing goods for the police. The court ruling had been for the two-year jail term and NPR 50,000 fine to Rana, one-year jail term and NPR 40,000 fine each to Gurung and Thakuri, the news in “gorkhapatra” of June 22, 2017 stated.

 

The two IGPs Rana and Gurung surrendered to the court on June 21, 2017 to get the benefit of getting exemption of 20 percent of the penalty they received, if they were to be present at the court and cooperate with the court, the law has made provision for, the news stated.

 

The Special Court had ruled that Rana had misused NPR 170.6 millions; so fined him the same amount, and sentenced him to two-year jail, and Gurung had misused NPR 64.8 million, and fined him the same amount, and Thakuri had misused NPR 48.5 million, and fiend him the same amount, and sentenced them to two-year jail term but the Supreme Court had reduced the penalty considerably, the news in “gorkhapatra” stated.

 

The Supreme Court had ruled to punish Shyam Singh Thapa and Deepak Singh Thangden the Special Court had released, for irregularities in the purchase. The Supreme Court sentenced each one of them to one-year jail term and fined NPR 40,000 each, the news in “gorkhapatra” stated.

 

 

Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) published a notice with the pictures of two officials in “gorkhapatra” of June 22, 2017 that chairman of Tax Redemption Commission of 2071 (2014): Lumbadhoj Mahat, and its member: Umesh Prasad Dhakal had been served a notice to be present at the CIAA but they had been on the run so far; so anybody finding them and seeing them please informed to the CIAA using the hotline 107 or informed the nearest police post or station; anybody helping to find them would be rewarded appropriately.
