September 11, 2012: speaking at the press conference held at Hyatt Hotel in Kathmandu before leaving Nepal today evening, “The U.S. wants to see a stable, democratic, and prosperous Nepal in which the rights of all citizens are protected and the rule of law respected,” ‘THT ONLINE’ quotes U.S. Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert O. Blake as saying. Assistant Secretary Blake said that Nepalese leaders could settle the outstanding constitutional issues provided they put aside their differences and work together, and urged the political party leaders to demonstrate real statesmanship and flexibility to resolve the contentious issues.
Concerning the U.S. taking off the Maoist party from the Terrorist Exclusion List (TEL), Blake said, “The delisting frees the party’s property within the U.S. and allows U.S. entities to engage in transactions with CPN-M without having to obtain a license.”
Assistant Secretary Blake during his two-day visit to Nepal met with Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda, Vice-president of NC Ram Chandra Paudel, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal, and newly appointed CoAS General Gaurav Shumsher Rana, members of the business community, and some members of the Tibetan community in Nepal.
