NC Reveals Its Protest Events To Topple Government
By KTM Metro Reporter
January 16, 2013: Nepal Students Union, Nepal Tarun Dal and Nepali Women Association aligned with the NC today announced their phase-wise-protest events to oust the Bhattarai-led government. According to the announced protest events, they are holding a march starting from Shanti Batika at 12:30 PM on Thursday and converge into a rally at Indra Chowk, and perform mock final rites to Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai at 4:00 PM on Sunday among others, according to THT ONLINE news of today.
A meeting of the party office bearers and central members available in the capital held at the residence of the President of NC Sushil Koirala today concluded that the chance of the formation of a consensus government was getting slim because the current government was for holding on to power sidelining the election. After the meeting, central member Dr Minendra Rijal said that the country was facing deepening constitutional and political crises; however, the NC would continue its efforts on forging a consensus to hold election in April/May. "But, the protest would be made effective joining hands with other opposition parties," he added, the NC would adopt three measures such as talks, protest and constitution for the political way out to the country, according to the RSS news posted on thehimalayantimes.com today.
Briefly talking to the reporters at Biratnagar airport today, Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gacchedar said that the nationwide agitation announced by the NC and the CPN-UML to oust Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai from power would make no difference to the government; the prime minister would not resign at any cost until and unless both the parties agree to a package deal. Welcoming the decision of the President to do away with the deadlines for a political consensus, he said that the responsibility of a consensus has now fallen upon the shoulders of the national political parties. The parties have failed to forge a consensus as a result of the politics of negation; "now the situation is a conflict between the forces for and against federalism," he said, according to the RSS news posted on thehimalayantimes.com today.
Speaking at the news conference held in Kathmandu today to make public the decisions of the party's general convention, Chairman of CPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidhya said that his party would not join in the anti-government protests to be launched by NC and CPN-UML, as changing the Prime Minister only would not help resolve the political crisis. He warned NC and CPN-UML leaders of not picking on CPN-Maoist over the Dekendra Thapa murder case. Chairman Vaidhya said that past agreements should be the basis of resolving such cases. If all wartime cases are revived, no one will be spared, added the Maoist leader, who formed a new party after breaking away from UCPN-Maoist. These cases need to be dealt with by a truth commission, he said, according to nepalnews.com news of today.
