Nepalese House Victim Of Everything
By KTM Metro Reporter
December 23, 2011: demanding the proper treatment of dalits in the aftermath of killing of a dalit youth called Mahabir Sunar in Kalikot for entering the kitchen of a restaurant on December 10, some lawmakers obstructed the House session yesterday. They demanded the government to declare Mahabir Sunar a martyr and pay the family of the victim one million rupees as a compensation for the loss of the loved one.
The Nepalese political parties had set the tradition of demanding to declare anybody belonging to the political parties but killed by any means even in the road accident a martyr and pay one million rupees as compensation to the victim’s family.
This time, the victim is the member of the dalit community. Naturally, the dalits also want their fellow community member to make a martyr. However, the method they chose was entirely wrong. They should not stop the House session for making the murder case a political issue and declaring the youth a martyr. To be a martyr one needs to work for that. For example, the four founding martyrs such as Sukraraj Shatri, Dharmabhakta Mathema, Dasrath Chand and Gangalal Shrestha gave their lives bravely fighting against the then authoritarian regime for the better future of Nepalis. What this youth had done for the nation? He had simply entered the kitchen of a restaurant, and he got killed.
Similarly, last Saturday, the alleged murder Shiva Poudel died at Neuro Hospital in Kathmandu after getting seriously injured in the gang fight in the Chitwan jail. He happened to be the chief of the Tarundal affiliated to the Nepali Congress. So, the Nepali Congress leaders unleashed its cadres to shut down the entire country on Saturday and on Monday, too causing billions of rupees worth of business loss and causing tremendous sufferings to the common folks.
The Nepali Congress leaders demanded the government to declare the alleged criminal Shiva Poudel a martyr. The so-called Nepali Congress leaders needed to tell the people what Shiva Poudel had done to the nation so that the government would declare him a martyr? Could we put him at the same rank of those martyrs that had bravely given their lives to bring the country to the current political, economical and social status?
The Nepali Congress leaders also had been saying that they would fight in the parliament for making the alleged killer a martyr. They had already closed the House for a day, and lost a day of working for completing the constitution writing for making Shiva Poudel a martyr. Shame on you: lawmakers and political leaders for making criminals martyrs.
