Not Following Order Of Court Unconstitutional

Issue 47, November 24, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 18, 2013: addressing the nation yesterday evening, Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khilraj Regmi has said that not to follow the order of the court is unconstitutional. Chairman of CPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidhya did not accept the order of the Supreme Court of Nepal not to enforce the shutdown of the traffic for disrupting the elections, as it would abuse the rights of others to vote in the elections to be held on November 19.

The 33-party alliance headed by the CPN-Maoist has been shutting down the traffic since November 11 to interrupt the elections. However, common folks have defied the call of the shutdown. The home ministry has been providing common folks and the transport operators with security, and the compensation for the damages of the vehicles done by the cadres of the Maoists, and the treatment for the injured people.

Chairman Vaidhya has disowned the terrorist acts of the cadres that have been hurling petrol bombs at the running vehicles, and setting fires on the parked vehicles terrorizing the common folks. Consequently, hundreds of poor cadres that have thrown petrol bombs and set fire on vehicles have been facing the charge of attempted murder.

Chairman Vaidhya also has said that the election boycott has been peaceful; various violent incidents have been caused to smear the image of his party. He also has demanded to immediately release the cadres of his party, according to the news in the ‘gorkhaptra’ of today.

Security along the international border has been tightened to make the election tomorrow peaceful. Most of the southern border entry points have been sealed for three days.

The entire country will come to standstill tomorrow for voting. No vehicles will be allowed to run on the streets tomorrow for ensuring the security of voters and polling centers.

The top civil officials called secretaries to different ministries have been monitoring the election situation in their respective areas. Today in the morning program, the anchor of the Nepal Radio has spoken to some of them in the east and west and north on phone, and inquired about the election situation in their respective areas. They have said that common folks are very enthusiastic to vote, they anticipate the turnout of voters from 60% to 80% tomorrow.

Despite the call of the traffic shutdown by the 33-party alliance headed by the CPN-Maoist, common folks en mass have been returning to their home constituencies to vote.
