Opening A Track On Jajarkot-Dolpa Road

Issue 52, December 29, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 27, 2013: the Nepal Army (NA) has intensified road construction work in the Jajarkot-Dolpa road section to open a track along the road in this week. The NA has started off digging this section of the road in 2007, and has faced local disputes making it uncertain when it would complete, according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

The NA has intensified the digging of the road after the National Planning Commission traced out the line from Pasagand, Khalanga in the district in 2010. The 116-Km road was started off digging at different five points; the construction of 83 Km has been completed. The tractors and jeeps began running on this section of the road yesterday, said Engineer Bishwa Bandhu Pahadi of the NA.

More than Rs 390 millions has been spent on the construction of the road. The government has been annually releasing budget ranging from Rs 60 to 90 millions for the construction of the road, according to the NA sources.

Though there are 17 rock mountains to be cleared on the way to the Dolpa district headquarters Dunai, the construction work would be completed within a couple of years if the necessary budget were released on time by the government, said the NA. According to the NA, additional budget of Rs 400 million is required to complete the road.
