Sri Lankan Apology To Nepal For False Claim

December 22, 2010: The Deputy Minister of External Affairs Mr. Neomal Perera attending the Third South Asia Economic Summit held in Kathmandu, Nepal from December 17 to 19, 2010 has apologized to the Government of Nepal on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka for the false claims made by the Sri Lankan Minister that Nepal has invited President Mahinda Rajapakse to be a peace mediator a few weeks ago when the two presidents met in Beijing, the news posted on the Srilankaguardian.org on December 22, 2010 states.
The Sri Lankan deputy minister has pleaded with Prime Minister of Nepal, Mr. Madhav Nepal to forgive the Sri Lankan government for the false claim. However, the Nepalese Prime Minister has advised the Sri Lankan Minister not to make such false claims in the future even though it is not the first time as such things are not conducive to diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Sri Lankan minister has requested the Nepalese prime minister not to make this apology public.
Sri Lanka’s External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris has repeatedly told the Sri Lankan parliament that Nepalese President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has asked Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse to be a peace mediator in Nepal during their meeting in Beijing a few weeks ago, as he has the experience in dealing such a peace process in other countries.
