Joint Meeting Of Parliamentary Party And Central Committee Of CPN-UML
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
April 11, 2010: when a parliamentary party meeting of the CPN-UML has turned into a messy call of the resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Nepal for his inability to act on completing the peace process and writing a new constitution on schedule, the leadership of the CPN-UML particularly the supporters of Madhav Nepal has called a joint meeting of the CPN-UML parliamentary party and the central committee of the CPN-UML in the hope of having a majority for defending the most corrupt leader Madhav Nepal surrounded by equally corrupt colleagues. However, Madhav Nepal has had to face equally uncomfortable situation in the joint meeting, too. Most of the elected CPN-UML legislators have continued to demand the resignation of Madhav Nepal for paving the way for forming a national unity government to navigate the country smoothly in the politically turbulent sea.
Most of the CPN-UML legislators have the notion of Madhav Nepal has done notoriously heavy damage not only to his own political career but also to the reputation of his party, too. Madhav Nepal has been synonymous with corruption, impunity, illegitimacy and doing state businesses not following the rule of law. He has ignored the instructions of the sovereign Public Accounts Committee for following the Public Procurement Act for awarding the contract of printing machine-readable passports (MRPs) and awarded the job to the Indian government-owned company at a higher price than quoted by the international bidders. He has promoted Toran Jung Bahadur Sing to the second-in-command in the Nepal Army ignoring the pressure of the national and international human rights activists not to do so, as Mr. Singh has been indicted for the enforced disappearances of 49 people while in the custody of the Nepal Army.
Madhav Nepal has doubled the price of sugar to Rs 90 per kilogram at the time of sugarcane crushing season for the benefits of the mill owners at the cost of the poor consumers. The government has the monopoly on the buying and the selling of sugar; so, he could play with the price of sugar so easily for sharing the profits with the mill owners. He has been equally smart to increase the prices of potatoes and onions to make profits for himself and his accomplices. He made the price of potatoes Rs 50 per kilogram; now, it has return to Rs 20 per kilogram; similarly, he has increased the price of onion to Rs 50 per kilogram; now, it has returned to Rs 25 per kilogram. Madhav Nepal has amassed a huge wealth during the last ten months of his reign by the price manipulations.
NC leaders have been shamelessly supporting such a corrupt Prime Minister Madhav Nepal in the hope of he would directly confront with the Maoists and fight to the finish. However, Madhav Nepal has not been able to do anything of the sorts the NC leaders have expected from him. The NC leaders have no courage to take over from him and navigate the country smoothly to the right direction. Most of the NC leaders have been waiting to take the country back to the previous status.
