Victory Of Allegedly Offending Student Leader
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
April 28, 2010: under the pressure of the protesting students of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) affiliated to the Nepali Congress (NC), the Kathmandu District Administration has released the student’s leader Bishnu Poudel on April 27, 2010. The NSU students have been protesting against the arrest of Poudel by the Police allegedly for physically assaulting another student leader Samik Badal of the ANNFSU affiliated to the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) over the argument on awarding the contract for the job of construction at the Trichandra Campus in Kathmandu.
The NSU students have been disrupting the normal lives at the center of the Kathmandu Metropolitan city for almost a week but they have intensified it on April 27, 2010 demanding the release of their Poudel. The stores were closed and traffic was diverted causing tremendous inconvenience to the common folks.
The NSU has planned to hold a torchlight march in Kathmandu on April 27, 2010, and then shutdown of the Kathmandu Valley on April 28, 2010. After the release of Poudel the NUS has call off the protest programs.
This is the clear example of the rule of political muscle over the rule of law in Nepal. If you are strong enough then the law enforcement people will bow down to you. Thus, the ruling political parties NC and CPN-UML have been giving up the rule of law for the rule of political muscle.
It is no wonder that the ministers of the Madhav government including Prime Minister Madhav Nepal have been bullying the rules in running the state administration.
