At Least 11 Climbers Died In Nepal Avalanche

September 23, 2012: At least 11 climbers have died at the avalanche occurred at the Manaslu Mountain in Samagaun in the northern Gorkha district today morning. The climbers were having a breakfast at around 9:00 AM at the 7,000 m base camps where they were in preparation for climbing the Manaslu Mountain: the World’s eight highest mountain when the avalanched hit them. Some climbers were still missing.

Nepalese climber-guide Babu Dorje Sherpa was one of the dead climbers in the avalanche. His body was kept at the Samagaun Village. Other victims of the avalanche were German national Ralax Amikl and others yet to be identified.

A number of helicopters: three of the Simrik Air and two of the Fishtail Air have been deployed in the search and rescue action but the adverse weather condition has been making the operation difficult. They have lifted five injured climbers to Kathmandu for medical treatment.
