Lord Pashupati’s Temple Becoming A Commercial Center
Kathmandu, March 30, 2016: the priests and their assistants working at the temple of Lord Pashupati in Kathmandu have been refusing to take the flowers, fruits, milk, yogurt and other things the devotees brought to offer Lord Pashupati without payments. Consequently, devotees had to dump all those things brought to Lord Pashupati nearby the gate, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of March 30, 2016.
Hearing on the law suit filed by the advocates including Rajiv Sinha, the Supreme Court of Nepal had issued an order in the name of the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) in the last year for the priests and their assistants accepting the offerings made by the devotees and then taking those offerings to the ‘lingam’ located in the inner sanctum of the temple. Obviously, PADT and the priests had not followed the order of the Supreme Court of Nepal, yet. Devotees had again complained about it.
PADT had been charging one thousand rupees to the devotees wanting to reach Pashupati on the Shiva-ratri day avoiding the endless lines of the devotees. PADT also had been collecting cash and kinds offered to Lord Pashupati. Unlike in the past, the priests and the assistants had to submit all cash and kids offered to the lord to the PADT that in turn provide monthly remunerations to the priests and their assistants in the amounts following the seniority of the priests and the assistants.
PADT had been doing a commendable job of improving the Pashupati area, and improving and extending the embankment of the sacred Bagmati River flowing right to the north of the temple of Lord Pashupati. PADT also had been managing the cremation area on the bank of the Bagmati River, and had constructed the electric cremation and had made it operational giving services at the nominal cost.
Pashupati is another name of Lord Shiva that also known as Mahadev means the lord of lords or the supreme lord. Lord Shiva is one of the most venereal deities of the Hindus. So, hundreds of thousands of Hindu devotees from India, Nepal and other countries visit Lord Pashupati in Kathmandu every year.
