Integrating Combatants But Not Returning Properties
By KTM Metro Reporter
November 24, 2011: regrouping of the Maoist combatants have been going on fast but the farmers have refused to return the properties seized by them during the conflict, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes.
Integrating, rehabilitating or retiring Maoist combatants and returning the seized properties to the legal owners are the two main points put forward by the opposition such as NC and CPN-UML for completing the peace process and then completing a new constitution.
The integration process such as regrouping the Maoist combatants into three groups such as those wishing for integration, for rehabilitating and finally retiring from the combatants are regrouped according to their wishes is going ahead at various cantonments. Hopefully, integration, rehabilitation and retirement will be completed on schedule.
Another point of concern for the opposition: NC and CPN-UML is the return of the seized properties. On Sunday, November 20, 2011, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda, General Secretary of NC Krishna Prasad Sitaula, and Vice-chairman of CPN-UML Bamdev Gautam flew to Bardiya to arrange the return of the seized properties but they were not successful.
Farmers are not in a mood to return the seized properties without any alternatives. They say that they are landless people and they seized the properties of landowners that had illegally owned such properties. The Vaidya group of UCPN-Maoist strongly supports these farmers for not returning the seized properties.
