Om Bikram Rana In Judicial Custody Concerning Sudan Scam

July 24, 2011: hearing on the corruption case filed against a number of police officer, the Special Court has sent one of the main characters of the corruption case, former IGP Om Bikram Rana to the judicial custody. Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case against 37 police officers implicating them in the irregularities in the purchase of armored vehicles and materials required for the UN Nepalese Peace Mission in Darfur, Sudan causing the loss of Rs 290 million to the welfare fund of the Nepal Police.
Mr. Rana had refused to accept the notice of the Special Court on appearing the court within 15 days of the receipt of the notice. So, the court official has posted the notice on the wall of his house forcing him to appear in the court otherwise face the arrest.
