Prachanda Quitting Prime Ministerial Race

Issue 38, September 19, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 17, 2010: speaking at the 12th General Convention of Nepali Congress held at the Tundikhel in Kathmandu, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that he is quitting the frustrating race for a new Prime Minister to free the country from the hostage to indecision and uncertainty.

Prachanda said, "It would be wrong to say that late Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala brought the Maoists into the peace process, I and Girija Prasad Koirala together started this peace process” raising his voice against the hoots of disapproval of the mass made up of mostly NC activists and sympathizers according to the nepalnews.com.

Signing the 12-point Understanding, the Maoists have agreed to set the foundation of the peace process and to give the country a new political mainstream, Prachanda has said. "We are here to build a new political mainstream for the country, not to be a part of the existing structure, and until you all don't realize this fact, the country is bound to suffer," he said, Nepalnews.com reports.
