Celebrating Fourth Republic Day

May 30, 2011: the government of Nepal has celebrated the Fourth Republic Day yesterday holding political and cultural rallies at the Tundikhel in Kathmandu and at the district headquarters in districts probably at a huge cost to the nation. Politicians of various colors made speeches at their respective areas assigned to them.

In Kathmandu, President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, Speaker and Chief Justice sitting at the Nepal Army pavilion watched the various activities of the Nepal Army, the Armed Police and the Nepali Police at the Tundikhel.

Then, possibly paid people dressed in various cultural related attires carrying auspicious items paraded at the Tundikhel for the benefits of the dignitaries watching the shows.

National Cadet Corps, students, scouts, and sportsmen also performed various their profession-related activities.

The government has asked the people to illuminate their houses for three days: one day before the Republic Day, on the Republic Day and one day after the Republic Day.

The government has made it a national holiday. So, this time, the government has shut down the entire country. This is also a huge cost to the nation.

In the evening the president hosted a tea party at his residence in celebration of the Republic Day.

In a press statement released in Kathmandu, congratulating the Government of Nepal on the occasion of the Fourth Republic Day, the government of Japan has hoped Nepalis would succeed in completing the peace process and promulgating a new constitution to institutionalize the republican system; to this end, the Government of Nepal would work hard and resolve all the remaining disputed issues of a new constitution, the statement says, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

Celebration of the Republic Day will be meaningful if the government has rehabilitated the victims of the movements and the conflicts, and compensate them for their loss of opportunity of living a normal lives but the government has failed in doing anything to this end but has announced to withdraw the cases filed against the perpetrators of the human rights violence.
