Sixth Day Of Shutdown Of Nepal

May 7, 2010: the Nepalese TV has reported that the so-called peace marchers have vandalized the vehicles used by the UCPN-Maoist cadres at Pulchok when the UCPN-Maoist cadres have stopped them from moving forward. Thereafter, the Maoist cadres have been chasing away the peace marchers. The reporters have alleged that in the name of peace marches, some people have confronted the Maoist cadres in Patan. At Ratna Park, too, the fighting between the Maoist cadres and the peace marchers has broken out.

Some people have marched through the New Road and assembled at the Basantapur for a peace rally. Members of various professional organizations have assembled there under the call of the Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry to put pressure on the political leaders for working on consensus on all political matters. Renowned comedians Madan Krishna and Hari Bansha have presented their satire at the peace rally.

The peace marchers have chanted ‘hang Prachanda’. The police have found two domestic weapons called khukuri with the peace marchers. President of Federation of Nepal chamber of Commerce and Industry Kush Kumar Joshi has accepted some undesirable elements have infiltrated into the peace marchers; he has said that the organizers have no program to make a peace march.

Speaking to the TV reporter, the Maoist cadre has alleged that the Madhav government has paid Rs 50 million to the corrupt businessmen, professional organizations and NGOs for holding a peace rally in countering the movement of the Maoist for ‘peace and constitution’.
