September 19, 2011: the 6.8 magnitude earthquake has hit Eastern Nepal and Northern India on Sunday evening. It has reached Delhi in the west, and Assam in the west and Tibet in the north.

The British Embassy compound wall in Kathmandu has collapsed killing three people: father and daughter riding a motorbike and another a pedestrian. A number of houses collapsed in the Kathmandu Valley, and in the eastern Nepal.

Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that he has instructed the police and other concerned agencies to conduct immediate relief work and provide the victims of the earthquake with relief.

According to the latest media reports, five people died in Nepal, 18 people in Sikkim, Northern India and seven people in Tibet.

The earthquake has caused several landslides in Sikkim and has blocked the road to the state capital of Sikkim. The security people have been clearing the landslides to open the roads.

In the eastern Nepal, the earthquake has caused snow slides and scared the people living nearby areas. The earthquake has damaged many houses there but the human causalities have been at the minimum.

In Kathmandu, the Nepalese parliament was about to pass the budget for FY 2011 when the earthquake hit Kathmandu and shook the parliament building. Although the parliament building is an earthquake proof one, most of the lawmakers are not for taking a chance and run away for safety. Realizing the earthquake, the House Speaker announced a 15-minute break.
