President Dr Yadav Watch Kumari Jatra In Kathmandu

September 19, 2013: following the tradition of the head of state taking blessing from the Living Goddess Kumari, and watching Her taking on a chariot, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav received the ‘prasad’ means blessing of the deity from the priest, and then watched Her riding on a chariot especially assembled for the occasion yesterday.
Vice-president, Chairman of the Interim Election Council of Minister, acting chief justice, high civil, police and military officials also were present to watch the chariot pulling festival of the Living Goddess Kumari. Volunteers pulled the chariot to the southern end of the old Kathmandu. Volunteers also pulled other two chariots of God Ganesh and God Batuk Bhairava.
Next day, volunteers pull the chariots to the northern part of the old Kathmandu, and to Kilagal on the last day of the festival.
Chariot pulling is only part of the eight-day festival called Indra jatra. During the eight days, Lakhe dance, Bhiarava dance, Pulikishi dance, and other dances are performed at various part of Kathmandu.
Huge mask of Akash Bhairava is opened to the public for making offerings at the Durbar Square for the eight days of the festival. Svet Bhairava is brought down to the Indrachok Square from the temple for the public to make offerings for eight days. An idol of Indra with his outstretched hands is displayed on a wooden platform at Maru tole for eight days.
