On August 30, 2009, holding a press conference at his office, Vice-president Permananda Jha has disclosed that the government has sent him a letter for taking an oath in Hind at 4:00P.M. However, he has said that he would neither take an oath in Nepali nor resign from the position, as the ruling of the Supreme Court is prejudiced; he has already signed the oath in Nepali in the format prescribed by the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007; in addition, the government has submitted an Amendment Bill to the legislature for making a provision in the constitution for taking an oath in mother tongues; so he would wait the legislature’s decision on it and then he would think over what to do next.
The deadline given by the Supreme Court of Nepal expires at midnight Sunday, August 30, 2009. According to the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nepal, after the expiry of the deadline for taking an oath in Nepali, Permananda Jha would return to the status of Vice-president-elect.
