December 9, 2012: Farmers of the Mustang district have made Rs.150 million selling mountain goats during the Dashain festival this year, according to the nepalnews.com.
Mustang farmers have managed to raise mountain goats to meet the requirement of Nepalis during one of the greatest festival called Dashian of Nepal when every household wishes to have a goat for meat to eat during the festival. So, the demand for various kinds of goats is high but often met by the import from Tibet. As the Nepalese farmers have been able to raise mountain goats in a commercial scale, fewer goats have been brought from the neighboring Tibet.
The people of Surkhang, Chhoser, Ghami, Charang and Chhondup Villages of Upper Mustang have been raising mountain goats to meet the needs of Nepalis during the Dashain festival. Technician of the District Livestock Service Office Mustang, Aita Bahadur Thapa told RSS that some 35,000 sheep and mountain goats reached various parts of the country via Mustang during Dashain this year, according to the Nepalnews.com.
