Setting Up Flood Victim Relief Authority

KTM Metro Reporter

September 14, 2017

Kathmandu: Speaking at the election rallies held in the Janakpur Campus Square and Bardibas in Mahotari yesterday, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said that he would set up a Flood Victim Relief Authority for the relief of the flood victims, the news in “gorkhapatra” of today stated.

This statement of the prime minister is as good as stating the flood victims will not receive any things from the State because he has to pass the law on the authority he has imagined, them formulate rules and regulations, and appoint a chief executive of the authority. This will take not months but years.

If the setting up of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) for distributing the relief supplies and the grants for the reconstruction and for reconstructing the State buildings, and rehabilitating the cultural heritages is any guide, the setting up of any authority means dragging the development work.

By that time, a law on Flood Victim Relief Authority is passed; Deuba will be out of office, as his term of office is not beyond January 2018. So, flood victims would be better off if Prime Minister Deuba were to use the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund, and distribute whatever amount he could deliver to the flood victims. If Deuba were to do such a thing, he would be a unique prime minister, and his name would be written in gold in the history of Nepal.
