Local Government Employees On Strike
BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
January 22, 2010: demanding the government enforce the past agreements they have reached with the government, employees of local governments have gone on strike again shutting down all sorts of businesses at metropolitans, municipalities and village development committees across Nepal. They have put forward the demands for getting all sorts of benefits other state employees have been enjoying, and the trade union rights they have been enjoying. The local government employees have said that they would continue the shutdown until the government meets their demands.
The immediate visible impact of the shutdown of the local governments is the pile of trash at every corner of metropolitans and municipalities. Citizens could not register births and marriages.
