Election Results of Bye-elections

On April 10, 2009, the Election Commission has held bye-elections at six constituencies. The UCPN-Maoist won at three constituencies, NC, CPN-UML and MPRF at one, constituency each.

The UCPN-Maoist and the CPN-UML have gained one seat each whereas NC and MPRF lost one seat each in the constituent Assembly after the bye-elections.

Prachanda and Dev Gurung of the UCPN-Maoist had won at two constituencies in the elections for the Constituent Assembly held on April 10, 2008; so they vacated one seat each. Similarly, NC leader Sheer Bahadur Daub, MPRF leaders Upendra Yadav and Bijya Kumar Gacchedar had won at two constituencies; so they also vacated one seat each, and Dr. Ram Baran Yadav after getting elected to the position of President vacated his seat, too. Thus, UCPN-Maoist vacated two seats; NC and MPRF also vacated two seats each. So, the total seats up for bye-elections were six.

The UCPN-Maoist won at Kanchanpur-4, Kaski-1 and Rolpa-2 whereas NC won at Moranga-7, MPRF at Moranga-5, and CPN-UML at Dhanusha-4.
