Civil Society Against General Amnesty

Issue 17, April 22, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

April 21, 2012: the Campaign for Civil Society representing more than 100 human rights organizations of the country has today opposed the agreement reached yesterday among the major political parties on forming an integrated Truth and Reconciliation Commission stating it is for granting general amnesty to perpetrators of human rights violence, ‘The Himalayan Times’ of today writes.

“It is sure that we (human rights activists) will not support the commission if formed ignoring the voice of victims and the international standards,” the press release signed by human rights activist Charan Prasain said. A press release stated, “We want to draw the attention of the political parties that we may not recognize such a commission and may not provide our support in the future. The formation of such a commission withdrawing the bills pending in the Parliament is not only undemocratic culture but also reflects the wish of certain power center to play power.”
