October 24, 2011: Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai’s India visit has been dubbed as the most successful both by the Indian authorities and the Nepalese authorities including the opposition senior political leaders. The opposition leaders particularly the NC leaders have liked the BIPPA (Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement) Minister for Industry has signed off in New Delhi on October 21, 2011. They believe that BIPPA will open the floodgate of Indian investments in Nepal.
The opposition particularly the senior leaders of CPN-UML and some leaders of Dr. Bhattarai’s party currently working as a strong opposition to his government have been deadly against the BIPPA and they dubbed it as the anti-national. However, in absence of the definition of national, terming the BIPPA as an anti-national they simply want to oppose it for the sake of opposition.
CPN-UML leader called Madhav Nepal defeated in two constituencies but managed to be the prime minister for 20 months by hooks or crooks has even boasted about it stating the Indian authorities had asked him to sign off the BIPPA when he visited India as a prime minister but he did not do so believing it was not in favor of the Nepalis. Not signing off the BIPPA, Mr. Madhav Nepal had done a great favor to Nepalis starving them of the Indian investments.
