Three Major Parties Agree On Ending Political Deadlock

On October 1, 2009, leaders of the three major political parties such as United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC), and Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPM-UML) have sat together at the office of the parliamentary party of UCPN-Maoist, Singhadurbar in Kathmandu. They have agreed on registering a common motion at the legislature to end the current political deadlock. They also have assigned the leaders of the NC and CPN-UML for drafting it by 5:00 PM Friday, October 2, 2009.

Deputy Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Narayan Kaji Shrestha “Prakash’ has told the news reader of the state-run Radio Nepal during the morning news of October 2, 2009 that the Maoists have been eager to know how the leaders of the NC and CPN-UML would address the concerns of the Maoists; so, they have assigned them to draft a common motion; it needs to be seen whether they would address their concerns or not.

Leaders of other political parties have said that they have agreed on addressing the issues such as suzerainty of people, limitation of the power of the President, and consolidation of the power of the Prime Minister but not taking up any issues that would hurt the President.
