Assault On Chairman Prachanda Equals To Assault On Republic

Issue 47, November 18, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 17, 2012: in a news briefing to the reporter at his party’s Perisdanda headquarters, spokesman for the UCPN-Maoist Agni Sapkota told the reporters that the assault on the Chairman of his party Prachanda yesterday was in fact the assault on the republic, as the Chairman Prachanda had been instrumental in making Nepal a republic and has been engaging in institutionalizing the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. According to the preliminary investigation, the assault on the Chairman Prachanda was preplanned by the extremists to dislodge the peace process, the crating of a new constitution, and then the institutionalization of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

"At the time an intense clash has raged between the change seekers and the ones against the change, the assault was launched to fulfill (their) vested interest with an aim to push the country to regression," he said in a press conference at the Maoist headquarters in Perisdanda today, writes THT ONLINE.

Spokesman Sapkota said, "Some people have offered clarification [about involvement] without being asked to." Though he did not name anybody or any party, the spokesman was obviously hinting at the splinter party led by Mohan Baidya, as its secretary Netra Bikram Chand clarified that his party had no hand in the attack, according to nepalnews.com

Yesterday, at the tea reception held by his party, Chairman of the UCPN-Maoist Prachanda took a strong slap from apparently the cadre of his own party for unknown reasons, as the reporters could not reach the attacker immediately after the attack. Recently, leaders of political parties have been vulnerable to such physical assaults at the public events. Before the yesterday’s assault, Chairman of CPN-UML jhalanath Khanal had taken a similar slap on his sleek cheek; President of NC Sushil Koirala narrowly missed the chair hurled by the attacker at him.
