Improvement In Nepalese Economy

July 2, 2010: talking to the reporter of the state-run newspaper called ‘The Rising Nepal’, Revenue Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Krishna Hari Baskota has said that the economic indicators of the country have improved despite the political uncertainties according to the news printed in ‘The Rising Nepal’ of July 02, 2010. For example, per capita income of Nepalis has increased to US$ 575; Revenue mobilization has been 16% of the GDP; revenue has grown due to 37 per cent rise in internal VAT, 26 per cent in excise duty and 23 per cent income tax.

Number of Nepalis living below poverty line has reduced to 24 per cent from 32 per cent some years ago, irrigation facilities have reached to two thirds of the total cultivated land, average life expectancy has increased to 68 years, and eight out of 16 millennium development goals set by the UN have almost been achieved.
